Senator Alexander and the CARE Bill

May 6, 2007

Your senator in Congress, Senator Lamar Alexander, has not yet signed on to cosponsor the CARE bill in the 110th Congress (S. 1042).  To move this bill ahead in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee we need your senator who is a member of this committee to sign on as a cosponsor to S. 1042.  Please call his office at (202) 224-4944 or fax him a note at (202) 228-3398 asking that he cosponsor the CARE bill (S. 1042) and how important it is for America’s patients to receive medical imaging and radiation therapy from educated and credentialed personnel.

Information about the CARE bill is available in the “government relations” section of ASRT’s website ( www.asrt.org ), along with talking points and sample letters.  In advance, thank you for supporting quality medical imaging and radiation therapy and for CAREing for America’s patients.

Tennessee House Bill 1197

May 6, 2007Greetings,

It has been a while since I contacted folks in the Tennessee Society, and some may not have received my previous e-mail regarding HB 1197 Sponsored by Representative Pinion.  It looked like this was bottled up in committee but now has received a Do Pass recommendation from the From House Committee on Health and Human Resources.

For a reminder, this is a bill that designates both RAs and RPAs as RA – waives the baccalaureate requirement for those who are currently RPAs lacking a baccalaureate and recognizes both the ARRT and CBRPA for licensure by endorsement in Tennessee.

We are asking that you encourage your members to contact their representatives in the Tennessee State Legislature and urge their representatives to vote against this bill.  The official position as adopted by the ASRT House of Delegates regarding advanced practices is recognition of the RA practice with the credential of Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) as credentialed by the ARRT.  The change in terminology from RPA to RA does not change the substance of the education requirements or the credential.  Thus it is in keeping with the official position adopted by the House of Delegates we are urging this bill be defeated.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Christine Lung, Director of Government Relations for the ASRT, or contact my office, contact information listed below.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
Peter K. Shams-Avari
